The Department of Physics at the University of Jyväskylä has a broad research profile concentrating on nuclear, particle and condensed matter physics. Experimental research is done at the local accelerator laboratory and at experiments at CERN (ALICE, ISOLDE) and in the future at FAIR. The QCD theory group has two full professors, and close to 10 PhD other researchers, specializing in QCD perturbation theory applied to high energy and nuclear processes, and to the phenomenology of heavy ion collisions.
